How much do you love Jesus? | Back to articles | Articles sitemap |

What a wonderful day and age to be alive! God’s Spirit is being poured out upon the earth. The earth is full of His knowledge and power. We know that the return of the Lord Jesus Christ is coming. God’s Word is being fulfilled before our very eyes! How glorious it is for those who know Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord! Respectively, how destitute are those who do not know Jesus Christ.

Many have called upon the name of Christ Jesus. Many claim Christ as their Savior. Today I ask however, is Jesus Christ truly Lord over your life? How much do you really love Jesus? How much do you truly know God? How deep and intimate is your relationship with Him today?

My brothers and sisters, Jesus must not only be Lord over our spiritual life, but all of our life. Jesus must not only be your High Priest when you go to church, He must be High Priest over all that you do.

Friends, I dare to say that many of us who call ourselves Christians today are simply going through the motions of Christianity. We call Christ our Lord, but we do not keep His commandments. We wave the banner of Christianity, but our lives reveal that we are not truly following the Christ we proclaim. We are double minded; with the Godly we act Godly, but with the sinners we delight in sin. Our love for others has grown cold and our desire for worldly things has become like a rekindled fire. We are Christians by word, but not by deed. Our laziness and guilt towards our sinful state prohibits us from proclaiming the message of Jesus to others.

I ask you, do you truly love God? Truly loving God means loving Him more then your husband, wife, children, relatives, friends and even yourself. God must be first before all other people in your life. Jesus said “He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it." (Matthew 10:37-39 NKJV)

God wants us to die to this life and it's system and live towards the next; the Spirit of Christ that dwells in us enables us (the born again believer) to do that. A dead person doesn’t care about the things of this world because they are dead. This is the same way we must live; dead to the things of this world and alive to the things of God.

Truly loving God means to love Him with "… all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment." (See Mark 12:30)

Jesus is more precious then our most prized earthly possession. There is nothing that is even close in comparison to His value. In Him lies everything that we could ever want and need. Most importantly it is only true and pure trust in Christ that reconciles us with God. If we truly want eternal life in heaven; if we truly want Jesus, we must give up this worldly life to find Him.

“… the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some of every kind, which, when it was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away. So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” (Matthew 13:44-50)

It is a good thing to never become too comfortable in this world.  In fact, if your always comfotable in this life that is a big warning sign. Too much comfort causes laziness and gives Satan an opportunity to work in our lives, but turmoil produces diligence and determination. Adversity challenged by a believer using God’s Word develops their character and strength in the ways of righteousness.

Therefore rejoice not because of troubles but rejoice in them for in them the righteousness of God in you may be perfected. In tribulation we look to God, putting our trust in the proper place, we humble ourselves and though we suffer in the flesh, our hope in Christ is continually being refined and perfected until the day of His coming.

Don’t misunderstand me, it’s is very good to be comforted in the salvation of your soul by the shed blood of Jesus, however remember Satan still wages war on you in this life. Satan cannot take away your Salvation, but he can tempt you to abandon it with the lusts of the flesh and things of this world. Living with the idea that "once you accept Jesus your troubles are over" is unrealistic, and actually unscriptural. In fact it is when you accept Jesus that the fight of your life (and the fight for your life) begins.

Yes, the earth is full of God’s knowledge and power, but how many of us are tapping into God riches in understanding? To tap into God’s riches you must first know Him. To know God you must have a relationship with Him. To have a relationship with Him you must read His Word.

The first sign of a strained relationship with God is neglected Bible reading time. God’s Word is the sustaining nourishment every believer needs. We must read our Bibles diligently and frequently. Power and authority over the natural and supernatural realms and beings are in God’s Word. If you do not know God’s Word you do not have any power. Respectively, if you know God’s Word but fail to understand how to use it, you are still left powerless against the forces of darkness. Both knowing and understanding the written word of God is critical in living a successful Christian life.

The next signs of a strained relationship with God are neglected prayer time and poor church attendance. Where church is concerned I will be bold, for some of you still resist God’s Will. Church is a place where you may come into fellowship with fellow believers in Christ. They are your eternal family.  Remember what the Bible says: "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching." (Hebews 10:23-25)

To those who believe you can worship God in any fashion while denying a Bible based church which God has established, you are deceived. How can you deny fellowship and service to your brothers and sisters, but seek fellowship with God? God has established the body, in which Christ Jesus is the head. "And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence." (Colossians 1:18)

Do you not realize that an enemy greater then any other enemy in existence is after your very soul? Do you not realize that there have been demons specifically assigned to attack you and your faith walk? Do you not realize that it is their job to continually set temptations, trials and disasters before you as stumbling blocks so that you may fall and backslide into worldly living and hypocrisy? Do you not understand that God specifically established the church to aid you, strengthen you, encourage you, enlighten you and protect you? Christians who refuse God’s will concerning church are the weakest in knowledge and power and therefore the most vulnerable to the attacks of the devil.

Understand that I say this in love, so that you may come to the place of victory God has ordained for your life. Neglecting church will take its toll on your faith walk. Over time as church is increasingly neglected, your relationship with God will increasingly suffer. I say this from not only watching others around me and experience in the Word of God, but from history and personal experience as well.

Again, how much do you really love God? Do you love God more then your job? Do you love God more then your favourite television shows and sports programs? Do you love God more then your computer games and internet surfing? Do you love God more then family outings and events? None of these things are bad in and of themselves however they become problems when they take up time that should be for you to connect, learn and grow with God.

All of us have the same time, so not having enough time for God is not an acceptable excuse. The question is what are your priorities? If your relationship with God is your first priority in all you do how can you not have time for Him? If God is first on your list He can never be bumped of by anything else. God’s place must be first in our thoughts and hearts and the first-fruits of our time should be His as well.

Following the commands of God is not the hope of our Salvation but the proof of our love towards God. Jesus said “… If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word: and My Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make Our home with him.” (John 14:23 NKJV) Your obedience to God’s Word reveals your true nature.

Awake, all of you who recognize disobedience in your life! Awake all of you who are only going through the motions of Christianity! Simply going through the motions of Christianity quenches the true power of the Holy Spirit to work through you to accomplish God’s will in the earth. Humble yourself before God and seek His face. Pray earnestly and wholeheartedly. Turn from the wicked ways of hypocrisy and laziness and call upon the Lord! “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Today is the day for you to rededicate your life to Christ. Love God. Love Him in truth and sincerity. Don’t let the devil drag you into spiritual staleness and decay. Seek God’s will for your life. If you have read this today and recognize that this article is speaking to you, put aside some time today and go before the Lord and ask Him to spiritually re-energize you with a passion and fire for Him like you have never experienced before. Go to God in faith expectantly. My friends, God is good and faithful; He will never let you down and He will not disappoint you.
